Stephen A. Segar Rochester, New York
STEPHEN A. SEGAR concentrates in personal injury and Workers’ Compensation Law. Steve was born in Canton, New York, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Rochester in 1980, cum laude, and a Master of Arts in religion in 1982 from Yale University Divinity School. In 1987, he was admitted to the New York State Bar after completing his Juris Doctor degree at Albany Law School the previous year. Steve is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Monroe County Bar Association and the New York State Injured Workers’ Bar Association. He lectures on topics relating to personal injury law, workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability. Service to the community and his church are very important to Steve. He served on the stewardship council at St. Joseph’s Church in Penfield, New York and presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Epilepsy Foundation and the Fairport Baptist Homes Caring Ministries. He also serves as Chairperson of the Major Gifts Committee of the Epilepsy Foundation. On the home front, Steve and his wife Laraine lead a very busy life caring for their five children. In addition to parenting, Steve finds time to read, play platform tennis, exercise, ski with his family and play taxicab driver for his children’s many activities. Steve believes the power of God, in prayer and in action, can shape us to be better, stronger more compassionate individuals, able to effect change where and when it is needed most. “I think there are times in everyone’s life when we need God’s help just to survive, but there are many more times when we can use God’s power to excel. We often forget how accessible God’s help is.” “There have been a number of mentors who have influenced my life, but my father’s guiding hand helped me over numerous bumps in the road,” explains Steve. “He encouraged virtue and character development, and was unwavering in his support of my education.” One of Theodore Roosevelt’s quotes has left an indelible imprint in Steve’s mind --- Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in that gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
